We all seem to be busier than ever. To prevent stress taking its toll, I gave you a few tips to help you recharge over the weekend a little while back. But sometimes a weekend is no longer enough. It?s important to truly take some time off. Not just because it’s fun, but also because it’s good for your health!
What happens when you never take a break?
The longer you keep on going without taking some time off, the bigger the chance that you’re no longer feeling well. Your brain functions a lot better when it’s properly rested. The same goes for the rest of your body, by the way. Mental and physical fatigue cause stress, sloppiness and will also block your creativity.
That way it’s difficult to come up with good solutions even thinking about what you will make for dinner tonight can be hard. When you’re tired, you often become more irritable and that?s not really making you more fun to be around, which causes a feeling of loneliness or isolation.
When this keeps on going, you will risk burning out. As a coach, I help people recover from a burnout and trust me, when it gets to that point, just taking a week off will not be enough anymore. It’s much better to prevent than to cure it afterwards!
Take a break from your daily routine
So don’t feel guilty when you’re taking some time off. At the end, it will improve your work and also keep you healthy. Your work suffers more when you never take a break than when you’re gone for a few days. And it might seem best to actually go on a vacation, but taking a break doesn?t have to cost that much. Go for a hike or jump on a bike and discover the nature that’s close to where you live.
The most important thing is that you’re doing something entirely different than usual. That way, you’re able to separate yourself from work a lot better. Leave your laptop at home and shut down your smartphone. And don’t go from one activity to another! That won’t help you feeling less hectic.
I know that I have to be more aware to take a break now and then. It’s so easy to keep on going when you?re in a state of flow. But the last couple of weeks I noticed I wasn’t really focused anymore. One day I just fell asleep when I was sitting on my couch in the afternoon. Oops. Time for a break! So thats what I did. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ve seen that I went to Scotland to recharge. It was so great to walk in beautiful nature every day.
So stop and think about when was the last time you took a break and don’t feel guilty for taking some days off. It’s for the better!
Lots of love,
