Taking a shower is a great way to start or end your day. For me, it’s the best way to get me fully awake and ready for the day. I change the water temperature from hot to cold, always finishing with cold water. This way, you really make the most of your time in the shower as alternating hot and cold water has some great benefits.
Why would I want to take a cold shower?!
OK, I get it: unless you need to cool down from the hot summer temperatures outside, you probably won’t volunteer for a cold shower. But it actually is one of the most easy detox methods out there! I can assure you, every cell in my body gets boosted with energy when I alternate the water temperatures.
One of the main benefits is that it improves your blood circulation. This way, your body cleanses itself from toxins faster. Both hot and cold showers have their own benefits:
– Relieves tension and soothes your muscles
– Is relaxing
– Reduces anxiety
– Creates hot steam that will help when you have a cold
– Awakens your body
– Increases mental alertness
– Reduces inflammation
– Hydrates and helps with dry skin and split ends
When you expose your body to cold external temperatures, the circulation flow will go directly to the internal organs. When the outside temperature gets hot, the flow will go outward toward the skin. You kind of speed up the process of detoxification. Also, nutrients will move more rapidly to the parts of the body where they are needed the most.
How to start
When you first start with this technique, it can be quite a torture to shut off the hot water. The best way to do it is not to think at all and just do it. Believe me, you’ll feel so much better afterwards. Just follow these simple steps:
Step 1. Turn on the shower. Make sure it’s a regular, comfortable temperature for you. Get in and rinse your body and hair.
Step 2. Now gradually increase the temperature for about 2 minutes until the water is very hot. Don?t overdo it, you shouldn?t hurt yourself!
Step 3. Now you have a choice to make: you could either slowly turn down the heat until it’s very cold, or just go all in and turn the temperature down at once. Make sure both your head and body are under the cold water.
Step 4. You can repeat these steps for about 4 – 7 times, but always make sure to end with a cold shower!
The best thing is that when you do this little ritual in the morning, it will help you energize for the day, and when you do it before you go to bed, it will help you to fall asleep more easily
